Testimony on County Budget
HCCA's board has authorized me to testify in support of a number of DPZ capital and operating budget items which directly address initiatives requested by HCCA. These include new buses, bus shelters, two additional contractor personnel to clean and maintain buses, an additional transportation planner, Route 40 Enhancement, and public outreach. Please note that the County Exec's Transition Team found that DPZ is understaffed.
We encourage you to testify as well, as individuals or as reps of other organizations. DPZ is responsive to HCCA and our support can help DPZ achieve some of our shared goals.
I requested funding for
- A new Planner 2 in the Transportation Planning Division - to work extensively with our many transit and ridesharing grants, contracts, etc.
- Nine diesel-electric hybrid buses as replacements for Howard Transit's aging fleet
- Transit technology upgrades - on-board security cameras, phone system improvements, AVL contract extension
- Two additional positions for our transit management contractor to provide added field monitoring and customer service.
Additionally, the following several projects in the proposedFY 08 Capital Budget that are important to DPZ's mission:
- C-0285 US 1 Corridor Revitalization
- C-0286 Bus Stop Improvements
- C-0289 Transit Operation Repair Facility
- C-0298 US 40 Corridor Enhancement
- K-5061 Pedestrian Plan Projects
